MedMobil - mobile clinic
Germany / Stuttgart

Main purpose : Since July 2010 MedMobil provides people in difficult living conditions free access to Health Care und social consultations in Suttgart. The MedMobil-bus, a reconverted former ambulance vehicule, goes several time a week to different public places and day-care centres. The MedMobil-team composed of medical and social workers provides on site prevention, basic medical care and social support to homeless people and to marginalised people. Special consultations for women or minors aim to address the needs of these particular sections of the population. One important aspect of the action of MedMobil is the cooperation with a network of established practitionners and Health Care institutions. In cooperation with the City Council of Stuttgart, the MedMobil-project aims at facilitating the (re)integration of marginalised people into the regular Health Care System. Beyond the proper activities on the streets, MedMobil aslo aims to alert the public and the authorities about the situation of those who are de facto cut off from Health Care.

open.med clinic
Germany / Munich

Main purpose : Since September 2006, Ärzte der Welt works in Munich to grant people without healthcare an access to basic medical care. Twice per week, open.med voluntary doctors provide patients with advice and care. For specific problems like toothaches, or pregnancies, patients are referred to a network of more than 70 partner doctors and healthcare providers. Patients receive free treatment from all the medical services and clinicians that work with open.med. A psychological and social help is also provided. Volunteers listen to the patients’ problems, assist them, and try to solve their issues with the help of a social worker and other institutions. The main purpose of the social support is to help our patients access the regular health system for example in cases where more expensive clinical treatment is necessary. The close cooperation with café 104, a programme of the Bavarian refugee council, also allows open.med to provide judicial advice to undocumented migrants. open.med also documents the situation, health and needs of those who are without access to healthcare in Munich and uses the information to advocate for them.
